RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival Fringe – FREE ENTRY

As the All Ireland Drama Festival celebrates the 70th anniversary of the first festival which was held in the Sportex Hall in April 1953, the festival committee have prepared a twin exhibition at both the Dean Crowe Theatre and Athlone Civic Centre.

At the theatre’s AIB Gallery, the focus is on the competing productions which comprised 30 plays in both 3-Act and 1-Act. The exhibition displays the programme information for each performance with a Press Wall displaying various drama-related reports of the time.

Meanwhile, at the Civic Centre, the emphasis is on the life and times of Athlone at the time of that first festival. Some interesting news stories and photos of the town will be on display casting a nostalgic eye on a bygone era.

This fringe event is free to the public and can be viewed in the AIB Gallery at the Dean Crowe Theatre from 10.30am to 3.30pm daily throughout the All Ireland Drama Festival.
