Dean Crowe Bar becomes the backdrop for Ulysses!

Strolling Through Ulysses! is a one-man show that tells the fun-filled story of Bloomsday – June 16th 1904 – the iconic day around which James Joyce’s Ulysses is based.

Ulysses celebrates its 100th birthday in 2022 and the Dean Crowe Theatre is delighted to honour this important anniversary with a performance of Strolling Through Ulysses! on April 21st.

“I’m really looking forward to performing the show in the theatre bar”, says Gogan. “It’s the ideal size, it’s intimate, and will be full of atmosphere on the night. And after all, some of the most memorable scenes in Ulysses occur in bars: Davy Byrnes, The Ormond Hotel, Burke’s pub, and of course the mighty row in Barney Kiernan’s pub. It also gives the patrons a chance to have a drink during the show, and to toast Mr Bloom in the process!”

Written and performed by Robert Gogan Strolling Through Ulysses! guides you through the curious events and quirky characters of Ulysses – humorous, entertaining and revealing!

Joyce, speaking about Ulysses once famously declared, ‘there is not one single serious line in it.’ Strolling Through Ulysses! certainly proves that!

Bawdy, irreverent and great fun!

So hold on to your hats and take a deep breath as Robert Gogan takes you on a 75 minute whistle-stop tour through the fun and laughter which is the backbone of James Joyce’s extraordinary and celebrated novel.
